The President of football’s world governing body (FIFA) - Mr Gianni Infantino and the Secretary General, Fatma Samoura arrived on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria for a two day working visit. They were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Intl Airport by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and others. Gianni Infantino paid a visit to the Senate this morning and was received by Bukola Saraki in his office. There was also a joint meeting between members of the National Assembly, FIFA officials and representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). More photos after the cut. The objective of the visit is to renew FIFA’s commitment towards developing football in Africa and promote corporate support for the sport in Nigeria.

A 17 year old Afghan teenage refugee attacked passengers on a train in Germany on Monday night with an axe, leaving three people in critical condition and 19 others with minor injuries, in what was described by officials as a "probable" Islamist attack. The assailant, armed with a knife and an ax, was identified as a 17-year-old Afghan man living in Ochsenfurt, Bavaria, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said. The attack took place as the train was traveling between stations. The train made an emergency stop short of the station at Wurzburg-Heidingsfeld and the assailant jumped out of the train, Hench said. 20-year-old Nigerian former rugby player who beat up and robbed a taxi driver to avoid paying a fare was on Monday July 11, sentenced to nine months in prison. Sachi Buti, who was born in Nigeria but came to Ireland at the age of eight, pleaded guilty to the robbery of Joseph Saji at St Michael’s Estate, Inchicore on the night of August 23rd, 2014. His mother, who supported her son in the Dublin Circuit Court said she was extremely shocked and appalled at his actions. Buti began his career with Leinster rugby at the age of 14 and played with the under-15 team. He went on to play for Blackrock, Liberty Saints and Guinness Rugby Club. Judge Catherine Murphy said she was jailing Sashi Buti with "great reluctance" after he failed to engage fully with probation and restorative justice services and failed a drugs test.
